위진남북조(魏晉南北朝)시대 여러 민족의 융합은 사화와 문화의 발전을 새로운 단계로 올라서게 하였다. 섬세한 수공에품이나 “위비(魏碑)”의 힘찬 글씨체, 생동감 넘치는 무용을 보여주는 인형들이 이 시기를 대표하는 예술품들이다. 조각, 서예, 음악과 무용 등 여러 분야에서의 성취는 수당(隋唐)시대 문화적 번영의 토대가 되었다.
다채생활(多彩生活, colorful life)
The merging of different nationalities during the Wei, Jin, the Southern and Northern dynasty advanced the cultural development into a new stage. The exquisite handicrafts, the forceful calligraphy of “Wei stele style” and the impressive dancing figures all appeared in this period of time. The achievements in sculpture, calligraphy, music and dance for this period of time laid a foundation for the cultural prosperity of the later Sui and Tang dynasties. (안내문, 섬서역사박물관, 2019년)
한무제 이후 실크로드를 통해 중국에 소개되기 시작한 불교는 십육국시기 후조(後趙) 석륵의 후원을 받은 불도징(佛圖澄)에 의해 교단이 형성되기 시작했으며, 북위(北魏) 때에는 운강석불, 용문석불 등 중국을 대표하는 석굴사원이 건립되는 등 불교가 크게 융성하였다. 이 시기를 거치면 불상이나 탑 등도 점차 중국화된 모습으로 바뀌었다. 백제의 미소로 잘 알려진 삼존여래상과 비슷한 형식의 불상을 많이 볼 수 있다.

북주(北周) 시기 장인 지역에서 조성된 불상으로 앞을 향해 서 있는 자세, 볼록나온 배, 밋밋한상투 등 중국화된 불상 형식을 보여주고 있다. 경주에서 출토된 백률사 금동약사여래입상(국보 29호)와 비슷한 모습을 하고 있다.

수.당전성기를 대표하는 유물이 당삼채를 이용한 화려하면서 생동감 넘치는 인형들과 비슷한 느낌의 인형들이 만들어지고 있는데 유목민의 생활모습과 복식 등이 반영되어 있다.
